B\V Winery Triumphs at the 21st Bacchus International Wine Competition in Madrid

The 21st Bacchus International Wine Competition, held at the Royal Casino of Madrid from April 17 to 21, has announced its winners. Organized annually by the Union of Spanish Wine Tasters, the competition brought together 89 international judges to evaluate 1,728 wine samples from 17 countries through strict blind tastings.

This prestigious event is held under the patronage of OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) and VINOFED, making it one of the most important wine competitions in the world.

B\V Winery achieved outstanding success, earning the title of Best Winemaker of Still Wines. Jiří Toman, the winery's chief winemaker, was awarded this prestigious recognition for the second time.

"It’s an incredible feeling, and I truly appreciate this honor. Simply being among top winemakers from around the world and having the opportunity to compare our work is a fantastic experience. I won the award for Best Winemaker in the White Dry Wine Category back in 2021, and just like then, this recognition comes as a huge surprise. I see it not only as a personal achievement but also as recognition of the entire B\V Winery team and my colleagues," said Jiří Toman.

B\V Winery further contributed to the success of Czech wines in Spain by winning the title of Best Wine of the Czech Republic for its Veltlínské zelené 2021 (Grüner Veltliner), batch no. 2129. The winery also secured four Grand Gold Medals (Gran Bacchus de Oro) out of only 53 awarded worldwide.

Gran Bacchus de Oro Winners from B\V Winery:

  • Chardonnay Reserva 2018, batch no. 1837
  • Ryzlink Vlašský 2021 (Welschriesling), batch no. 2136
  • Muškát Moravský 2021 (Moravian Muscat), batch no. 2125
  • Veltlínské zelené 2021 (Grüner Veltliner), batch no. 2129

In addition, 12 wines from B\V Winery received the Gold Medal Bacchus de Oro, while three wines earned Silver Medals.

"This outstanding result is undoubtedly the result of our long-term strategy and philosophy. At B\V Winery, we devote the same level of care to all our wines. We allow them enough time, both during production and in bottle aging. We truly ‘play’ with each wine, exploring possibilities and patiently waiting for the best outcome. And as we can see, success eventually follows," commented Vlastimil Valenta, Executive Director of B\V Winery, reflecting on their achievements at this year's Bacchus International Wine Competition.
