The World's Largest International Riesling Competition Awards Czech Wines
The prestigious Best of Riesling competition, held annually in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany, in the Rhineland-Palatinate region, announced the best Rieslings of 2023 at the end of June. Moravian wineries achieved outstanding results in this highly competitive international event, particularly against strong domestic German wines.
"This competition is a challenge for us every year, and we are truly delighted with this year's results. Five of our Rieslings scored over 90 points, and two of them reached 92 points, just like a Riesling from Spielberg Winery. These results confirm that Moravian Rieslings can compete on a global scale. The winners typically come from renowned German wine regions such as Pfalz, the Middle Rhine, and Mosel, where Riesling has a long tradition. To succeed in this competition is truly exceptional," said Vlastimil Valenta, CEO of B\V Winery.
A Highly Competitive Field
This year, almost 1,300 Rieslings from around the world entered the competition, judged in eight different categories. The competition has strict scoring criteria, with only wines scoring 87 points or higher receiving awards. Only 180 wines scored above 90 points, making the Moravian achievements even more remarkable.
A total of 22 Moravian wines received 87 points or higher. The most successful winery was B\V Winery, earning 12 awards, including two exceptional 92-point scores. Spielberg Winery also achieved 92 points and received eight awards in total. Other notable successes came from Vinařství Václav and Vinařství Sonberk.
